Are GMOs Safe?
There is a huge controversy about whether GMOs are safe to eat or even for the environment. Many people believe that to mess with nature, is not right or safe. That people would be better off leaving it alone and that the plants are actually being harmed. I personally can see both sides of this argument. Some good things are that more food will be produced which will help to keep up with the growing population and lack of food in some places. By genetically modifying plants, they will most likely last longer because people have figured out how to make them less appetizing to pests. I'm sure 90% of farmers are all for this because their plants will survive better and last longer and they will make more money due to more plant growth. A downside to GMOs would be the cost. By genetically modifying plants, scientists have spent more time on them and the plants will obviously cast way more. Another downside would be the problem with chickens. My though on this is that "yes, ,more eggs are being produced, but to what cost? Is it really worth it?" I guess I don't really have a problem with GMOs because, after all, I do eat corn. On the other hand, we raise our own chickens and I haven't eaten a store bought egg in years. Anther fact I learned from my mom was that store bought eggs are actually a few months old by the time the get put on the store shelves. There is nothing like fresh farm eggs!
